Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is a Chinese martial art that focuses on proper body structure and alignment, as well as the cultivation of internal power/energy rather than muscular strength. This 8 week introductory class will present Tai Chi for Good Health (Yang Style Short Form). This gentle, relaxing series of movements is based on 24 of the 37 postures of Tai Chi Chuan. Once learned, the entire form takes approximately 5 minutes to perform. Practice of the form encourages proper body alignment, muscle development, spinal flexibility, and efficiency of movement. The class will also include Qigong practice. Translated as “energy work,” these are exercises often associated with Tai Chi Chuan as a further method of relaxation and qi cultivation.
