The Complete Beginner’s Guide to UVAC

Sometimes when you step into a new building, it can be completely overwhelming. Where do I go? What should I do? What is available to me? Look no more. We here at UVAC have got you covered!

  1. BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE: BE PREPARED

Whether you are coming for a swim or a work out, make sure you have your essential swim and fitness gear! A swim-suit is an obvious one, but you want to make sure the not so obvious things are with you too: A towel, water bottle, sneakers for the fitness room, shower accessories, lock for a locker, after exercise snack, valid ID if you are an adult guest, your personal US Coast Guard approved flotation device if you are a younger swimmer, and money for the café or ATM card for ATM machine. You may be able to purchase things at the front desk like hair ties or goggles, but the key is to be like a boy-scout: ALWAYS BE PREPARED!

  1. NOW TO YOUR FIRST STOP: THE WELCOME DESK

To learn about all the opportunities UVAC provides, you first need to stop at the Welcome Desk and get a membership or day pass! This will be your one-stop shop for questions you may have and explanations for all our products and services. Once you receive your membership, this will also be the place where you sign in each time you come!

  1. UP AND DOWN, LET’S LOOK AROUND

On occasion, you might want a physical schedule or program brochure to look at and take home with you. Schedules for each area can be found on the wall near our seating area in the main lobby. If you would like to look at the brochures of all the different activities, you can pick them up behind the stairs of the lobby in the dining area. You can sit and relax while browsing for your favorite activities. The website is also a great way to get these materials!

  1. PICKING THE RIGHT LOCKER ROOM FOR YOU

As you make your way through the building from the front desk, go to the left hallway and the locker rooms will be in the coves on the right. Make sure to follow the signs for which locker room will be right for you. There is a separate and large family-friendly gender neutral locker room for those with children. Just follow the signs (more signage is coming soon!)

  1. FINDING YOUR FITNESS GROOVE

We want you to enjoy a great work out preferable to you and UVAC has a lot to offer. There is a fully-equipped gym with cardio and strength equipment for those who want to fit fitness into their schedules. If you enjoy a group setting, there are more than 70 free classes available each week from Water Volleyball to Total Body Conditioning. If you are looking for some professional personal training? We also offer this at an affordable price any way you enjoy it: one on one, with a friend, or in Small Group Training like Shed and Shred where you work with a personal trainer and a group of six or fewer individuals to reach your specific fitness goals. With so much offered find what works for you here!

  1. DOES THIS BUILDING SMELL NEW TO YOU?

Along with the family-friendly locker rooms, the new expansion  will have a new group exercise studio for classes such as Yoga, Pilates, and stretching; expanded fitness room space for strength and cardio equipment; a sauna; and a physical therapy center with Be Fit Physical Therapy. Make sure you check us out for our grand re-opening in October 2017! It may just knock your socks off… if you’re not already in the pool that is.

  1. FOLLOWING THE LAZY RIVER OR TAKING ON THE COMPETITION

Here at UVAC, we have 3 types of pools to choose from, our competition pool, warm water pool, or the kid-exciting Splash Park.

If you are up for lap swimming, our 11 lane, 8 foot deep, competition and training pool is 25 meters by 25 yards is right for you. This pool provides many programs such as a Master’s swim program, a competitive swim team for children ages 6-18 Red Cross lifeguard certification and re-certification classes, adult and child swim lessons and host a number of USS Swim meets throughout the year. Just want to watch? Our elevated bleacher section can hold more than 400 spectators!

Want to have a relaxing swim in a warm and comfortable atmosphere? The warm-water instructional pool is a 4-foot, 3-lane, 25-yard pool with a maintained temperature of 86-88 degrees. This pool includes swim lessons, water exercise classes, water therapy and lap swimming for those who prefer warmer water. A great place for beginners and those who want to exercise in a low-impact environment.

Ready to have a splash with your kids? Chances are they will be drawn straight to our indoor splash park. There are lots of interactive water features in a fun and safe environment. The splash park consists of a Lazy River that carries you past small waterfalls and other water elements, a kiddy pool that provides easy access to the water for the youngest swimmers. For the more adventurous, climb 20 feet to the top of our speed slide and take a 110-foot cork screw ride out of the building before landing back inside!

  1. NEED TO GET IN THE ZONE? CHECK OUT KIDZONE

Sometimes as a parent you may need some childcare help while you do your own thing. The KidZone is a safe, enriching place for children three months to 13 years of age offered all week and is free with a family membership.
