Self Care by Erin Buck

I type away late at night to finish emails that, if left undone will creep into tomorrow’s work load. I am learning about using an Instapot so even that can help me become more efficient in the kitchen on late nights with after-school activities. I spend almost every minute of my day thinking about someone else and their needs!  My routine in self care has changed two fold since the birth of my children. The time I have to myself is small and on some days non-existent. How did I get here? When did taking a potty break become the equivalent of “quiet time”?

I am a giver, if you know me, you know that I am always volunteering, encouraging, rallying, supporting, creating moments, and experiences for those around me. Why do folks find themselves in this position and what words of wisdom do I have to share to help.

What does self care mean to me?… well it means getting back to basics.

  • Adequate Sleep
  • Nutritious and Satisfying Food
  • Regular Exercise
  • Spending Quality Time with Family
  • Doing Stuff You Enjoy
  • Medical Care That You Need

I often run out of time to make myself a priority, and the responsibilities I have are overwhelming. So when I get into a rut, I do these things to help empower me to be my best.

  • Create a Habit
  • Make plans
  • Include those you care for in your goals
  • Get Help & Support

I encourage you to schedule your self care to ensure that you are taking care of yourself every day. Whether it be as soon as you wake up, before you go to bed, or anytime in between. Creating a routine is important so you can benefit, even though it can be hard to spend time on yourself when you think your energy should be elsewhere. These are the times you most need self care. And this may look different for everyone. It may include those you care for in your goals. It may involve getting help from someone. So experiment, and figure out what works for you. Do what makes you happy, do what you love.

So, share with me your routine for self care. What do you do to fill your cup?
