We can all get caught in that rut of negativity, maybe thinking we are not good enough or we should try harder. Our thoughts can dictate how our whole day goes. For example, if I wake up in a negative mindset, chances are, the rest of my day will be bad. Here are three ways to change your thoughts to increase your happiness and overall well-being:
- Start the day off with a mantra. Just the simple act of repeating a positive affirmation to yourself can reduce your stress, and actually alter your brain activity to create a higher level of calm.
- Approach your negative thinking from a distance. Next time you notice yourself being overly pessimistic, take a step back and look at your thoughts from an outsider’s point of view. Ask yourself, “if I were being positive, how would I look at this situation?” or “is this way of thinking helping me achieve my goals?”
- Speak to a professional. If your negativity is getting to you more than it should, don’t hesitate to talk to a psychologist about it. Counseling and therapy can help you achieve your goals in a safe, loving, and supportive environment.
So, next time you catch yourself thinking negatively, employ one of these strategies (or whatever works for you) so you can be the best and most positive individual you can be!
