I was at a point where I was overweight and struggling with very low energy and osteoarthritis pain. I didn’t feel good and I knew I had to do something about it before it got worse. I never struggled with weight gain when I was younger, but between juggling my kids’ schedules and working, I made less and less time for taking care of myself and the weight started to creep on.
I decided to try some personal training sessions to get me moving in the right direction. My goal was to work a regular exercise routine back into my life and get back to my normal healthy weight, which meant I had to lose around 35 pounds. I was paired up with Chris Connolly and began training with him 2-3 times per week. I felt so tired and out of shape, I really didn’t think I would be able to do it, but Chris met me right where I was at and we got started.
Chris helped me make some necessary changes to my diet and he was available outside of our training sessions to talk with me and answer questions I had along the way. After a couple weeks of working with Chris and getting past the initial soreness, I began seeing some results and realized I could do this. I felt my body responding to the exercise and diet changes and I began to drop weight and feel more energetic.
A few more weeks later, Chris convinced me to sign up for the Tough Mudder Half with the UVAC team – something I probably never would have considered doing on my own, but I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and give it a shot. It turned out to be a great experience and honestly a lot more fun than I expected!
Six months later, I am maintaining my goal weight and feeling like myself again. I feel strong and healthy and my pain has decreased significantly. I think the biggest obstacle I faced was overcoming my own self doubt. Working with Chris has helped me overcome that and taught me how to make my own health a priority.
