Free Online Film Screening of Angst: Raising Awareness around Anxiety: Sept 24, 7pm

Hello UVAC friends —

Since UVAC is a place where we work on the fitness of both our bodies and minds, I wanted to share an opportunity to learn about youth anxiety—an issue that is especially pertinent at the start of an unusual school year.

On September 24, from 7-8:30pm, Windsor-based Mt. Ascutney Prevention Partnership will host a free online screening of the IndieFlix movie, Angst: Raising Awareness around Anxiety. The film lasts an hour and will be followed by a 30-minute panel discussion in which participants will have the opportunity to ask local mental health experts questions.

You can sign up at the Zoom link. Registration is limited:

Angst features several kids who share about their experiences. World-champion swimmer and mental health advocate Michael Phelps makes an appearance, as well.

“Anxiety craves certainty and comfort—the pandemic is the opposite of these, and therefore creates anxiety for everyone,” says Courtney McKaig, one of the event’s panelists. She adds, “Going back to school is often a time of heightened anxiety, and this year, even more so.”

In her work as a Family Wellness Coach and Behavior Specialist at Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center, McKaig encourages parents work on their own well-being, stay present with their kids, and check in with kids.

Please join us for the film and panel for further conversation about anxiety, and strategies for what we can do about it.

Best wishes,

Liz Kelsey
